Meeting a high target for ID issuance, it was reported on Thursday that 125,447 individuals in the Negros Oriental province were registered under the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) by the end of 2024, including newborns if their parents attended  registration.

The Philippine Statistics Authority reports the growth of the population being registered under the ID programme and owning a form of ID from birth to death, which enable easier and more convenient citizen services.

In the province of Oriental Mindoro, Philippines, the PSA has achieved 87% of target registrations for children aged 5 and above.

The Philippine Statistics Authority in the province also concluded its Census of Population and Community-Based Monitoring System (PopCen-CBDM) in December, with the data being validated before it can be submitted to the Central Office.

Negros Oriental also experienced a welcome downward trend in its inflation rate throughout 2024. The PSA is scheduled to present the December inflation rate and its final report on January 13.

In November, the inflation rate dropped to 0.9 percent from 2.0 percent in October, contributing to an average inflation rate of 3.7 percent from January to November. The sectors leading this deceleration include housing, electricity, gas, and fuel at 73.3 percent, followed by food and non-alcoholic beverages (17 percent) and health (4.7 percent).
